After 10 years together, I'm not surprised much anymore by Vance.
I knew he would be a good Dad, but I honestly don't think I knew what I was in for. Bringing a newborn into the world is tough yet beautiful business. Most parents won't take the time to show the world Instagram pictures featuring the crazy diaper-splosions or what you look like when you wake up every 1.5 hours to feed your newborn and just how tough it can be. Vance was the first to pick me up after every happy/sad/I-don't-know-why-I'm-crying-I-never-cry tear in this process. I absolutely love the way Hayes lights up when he walks in the room and how he gets her to giggle better than anyone.
For his first Father's Day, I wanted him to have a day full of snuggles, relaxing and the things he loves. Father's Day week sort of snuck up on me but I was lucky and snagged a surprise Father's Day massage for the morning of (although it was kind of a non-surprise when he found the tab open on our desktop... OOPS). After that I made sure we had time for a stop by Duck Donuts for one of his favorite treats!
Fun fact: Duck Donuts actually played a part in how we announced our pregnancy to our family! If there wasn't food, did it actually happen?
Last but not least, we gave him a new watercolor for the nursery in honor of his nickname for Hayes. This collage wall over her changing table was a year in the making and this made for such a perfect and heartfelt last touch! The nursery is filled with things that are close to our heart including a toy box Vance made, a pom-pom wreath my MIL crafted for us and the painting that got me nose-diving into watercolors is hung above her crib. Looking around and seeing all of the love, sweat (no really, it was summer in NC), and tears that were poured into the furniture and artwork in that room makes it one of my favorite rooms in our home.
So, after a year in the making and some special touches, here are some of our favorite pieces in the nursery!
